Michael Bolton is a pretty good vocalist. His voice is amazing and music is even greater. He made “friend zone” lovers a special ballad with his late 80s adult contemporary hit “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.” Bolton gave every hopeless romantic a reason to be hopelessly miserable being alone.
In the past, I often asked myself the same question as the song’s chorus goes.
“How am I supposed to live without you Jesus after I’ve been knowing (original song says ‘loving’) you so long….How am I supposed to carry on…when all that I’ve been living for is gone”
What would my life be like in complete submission to my former desires of ignorance?
Meaningless is what it would be. A life of serving my own interests, desires, and arrogance.
Like Bolton’s song, apart from Christ, how are we supposed to “live?” Not simply exist, but embrace the abundant new creation God wants us to become.
It’s practically impossible without devine sanctifying grace.
